‘I’m not a magician’: Marcus Rashford Reflects on Clasico Brilliance and Barcelona Future
A Moment of Magic in the Clasico
Barcelona's recent victory in the Clasico was highlighted by a stunning opening goal from Marcus Rashford, but the striker revealed that the spectacular strike was not part of his original plan. The Manchester United loanee admitted that he initially intended to cross the ball rather than take a shot.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Rashford explained how his teammates' encouragement pushed him to change his mind. “No, I wasn’t going to shoot because when I put that ball down I didn’t see the angles, I didn’t feel confident it was going to be a goal so I was going to cross,” Rashford stated. “But everyone was telling me to shoot and then I hyped myself up a little bit.”
Ambitions and the Barcelona Project
Rashford's goal flew past Thibaut Courtois, setting the tone for a dominant Barcelona performance. For the forward, the experience of playing for the Catalan giants has been rewarding, and he expressed a strong desire to be part of the club's long-term success.
“It was a good goal. I came here to win, so this is it. I want to win as many things as I can. This team is wonderful, is going to win so much in the future. To be part of that would be special,” he added.
The Question of the Future
Despite his on-field success and affection for the club, Rashford's future remains clouded in uncertainty. With his loan deal expiring at the end of the season, both the player and the club are weighing their options.
When questioned about a potential permanent move, Rashford kept his answer grounded: “I don’t know. I’m not a magician but if I was I would stay at Barcelona. We will see. Football is unpredictable but for now, I will just enjoy it, live in the moment and reassess at the end of the season and see what is possible.”
Reports suggest that while Barcelona is keen on keeping the English forward, they are hesitant to trigger the €30 million buyout option included in his contract. Instead, the club is reportedly exploring the possibility of securing him on a second loan deal to maintain their squad strength without a heavy immediate investment.
