Alexis Mac Allister confirms Liverpool future unresolved amid ongoing contract stand-off

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed there is still "no firm decision" regarding his long-term future at Anfield as he continues to wait for contract talks with the club.

Alexis Mac Allister playing for Liverpool

The 27-year-old Argentina international sparked headlines earlier this month after revealing that Liverpool officials informed him they were not in a position to offer him fresh terms upon entering the final two years of his deal. The situation left Mac Allister "very sad," particularly following contract extensions handed to midfield partners Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Contract Stand-off Remains Unresolved

Despite summer transfer interest from other top sides, Mac Allister remained on Merseyside, maintaining an important role under head coach Andoni Iraola with seven appearances across all competitions this season.

Speaking to ESPN while away on international duty, Mac Allister confirmed there has been no recent breakthrough in negotiations.

"There's no firm decision yet. I still have two years left on my contract. As I said, I'm going to give it my all. A lot can happen in that time; there are plenty of options," Mac Allister said.
"Hopefully it'll be for more years, but if it's just two, I'll have to enjoy them with my family, because I have no doubt that I'm at one of the best clubs in the world."

Messi's Farewell and Ballon d'Or Backing

Mac Allister is currently with the Argentina national team for friendlies against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin. The match against Benin at the Estadio Monumental is set to serve as an emotional farewell fixture for Lionel Messi following his international retirement announcement.

Messi ends his illustrious international career with 125 goals in 207 appearances for La Albiceleste, holding the all-time record for most World Cup goal involvements (33 — 21 goals and 12 assists), surpassing Argentine icon Diego Maradona.

Backing Messi for a potential ninth Ballon d'Or award, Mac Allister added:

"Obviously, as Argentines we'd love for Messi to win it. He had an incredible World Cup and I don't see why he shouldn't be awarded it."
"Also, it's understood that these days the numbers play a big part – something that didn't carry as much weight in the past – and you don't know exactly what people are voting for either. But everyone in the running is a great player; anyone who comes close will deserve it. We all know that Leo has always prioritised the team over individual achievements, so it wouldn't be a big deal for him."
