Virat Kohli Makes IPL History: First Batter to Score 600+ Runs in Four Consecutive Seasons

A Historic Milestone at Dharamsala

Virat Kohli has once again cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Qualifier One clash against the Gujarat Titans on Tuesday in Dharamsala, Kohli scripted a new record, becoming the first batter in IPL history to score 600 or more runs in four consecutive seasons.

Entering the match with 557 runs for the 2026 season, Kohli required 43 additional runs to reach the historic milestone. Despite a cautious start and some early struggle against the pace of Kagiso Rabada, Kohli shifted gears as the innings progressed. He eventually reached the target with a single off Rashid Khan on the fifth ball of the eighth over before being dismissed by Jason Holder for 43 runs off 25 deliveries.

Dominance Across Seasons

Kohli's consistency has been unparalleled. His streak of 600-plus run seasons spans from 2023 through 2026, surpassing previous records held by legends like Chris Gayle, David Warner, and KL Rahul, who all managed three consecutive such seasons.

In the current season, Kohli has been in devastating form. Across 15 innings, he has amassed 600 runs at an impressive average of 50.00. Most notably, he has achieved a career-best season strike rate of 164.38, punctuated by one century (a top score of 105) and four half-centuries.

IPL Stat Leaders: 600+ Run Seasons

Kohli now stands alone at the top of the list for the most total seasons with 600+ runs, with 6 such occurrences. He is followed by KL Rahul with 4, and a trio of Shubman Gill, David Warner, and Chris Gayle with 3 each.

Most Consecutive 600+ Run Seasons

  • Virat Kohli: 4 (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026)
  • Chris Gayle: 3 (2011, 2012, 2013)
  • KL Rahul: 3 (2020, 2021, 2022)
  • David Warner: 3 (2016, 2017, 2019)

This latest achievement adds to Kohli's extensive list of IPL accolades, which includes the record for the most runs scored in a single IPL season (973 runs in 2016), further solidifying his position as the tournament's most prolific run-getter.
