SA20 Season 4 explodes into life with record totals, Super Over drama and sold-out crowds
SA20 Season 4 delivers a spectacular opening week
SA20 Season 4 has made an immediate impact, combining high-scoring cricket with packed venues and a series of landmark moments. Seven matches have already sold out during the tournament’s opening week, underlining the competition’s growing appeal across South Africa.
Run-fest at Newlands
The season began with a major batting spectacle at Newlands, where defending champions MI Cape Town faced Durban’s Super Giants in a match that produced 449 runs, 25 sixes and 40 boundaries.
Durban’s Super Giants posted 232/5, the highest total ever recorded at the venue, surpassing the score set in the 2024 final. MI Cape Town mounted a formidable reply, led by Ryan Rickelton’s 113. His innings was the first century of the season, arriving after Season 3 ended without a single hundred.
Super Over history at the Wanderers
The Wanderers hosted another first when Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants were separated by the league’s inaugural Super Over on New Year’s Day. Joburg Super Kings eventually prevailed in a dramatic finish.
Derby results have added further intrigue. Joburg Super Kings won in Centurion for the first time, while Paarl Royals completed a historic double against MI Cape Town.
Sunrisers and landmark bowling achievements
Sunrisers Eastern Cape have made their best-ever start to an SA20 campaign, securing two bonus-point victories. The bowling records have also begun to fall, with Marco Jansen and Ottneil Baartman becoming the first players to reach 50 wickets in SA20 history.
The tournament has also generated considerable excitement away from the field. Six fans have already won prizes through the Betway Catch R2 million giveaway, adding to the carnival atmosphere surrounding the competition.
With live results, match previews, highlights and post-match analysis continuing throughout the campaign, SA20 Season 4 has established an early narrative of record performances, close finishes and strong fan engagement.
