Sahibzada Farhan smashes 238 runs to break Abhishek Sharma's T20I series record

Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan has carved his name into the T20I record books, finishing the three-match series against Sri Lanka with 238 runs — the most by any batter in a bilateral three-match men's T20I series between two Full Member nations.

A record chased down in three innings

Farhan's tally overtakes the 229 runs India's Abhishek Sharma had scored against Afghanistan earlier this year, moving him to the top of the all-time list. New Zealand's Colin Munro (223) now sits third, followed by Australia's David Warner (217) and Afghanistan's Hazratullah Zazai (204).

The Pakistan skipper sealed the milestone in the final match on Tuesday, blasting 76 off just 47 balls for his third consecutive half-century of the series. His consistency across the campaign was the backbone of Pakistan's batting, even as the hosts fell to defeat in the closing fixture.

Farhan: "Looking to make the most of it"

Reflecting on the series, Farhan said Pakistan had stuck to the same approach that had delivered the trophy, while admitting the game can turn quickly.

"The way we set a superb target in the first two matches, today also we had the same plan, but it's cricket; anything can happen. The effort is to stay consistent. When I perform well, I'm even more focused to do well in the next match. It's cricket; you're not always in form. So I'm looking to make the most of it."

Farhan, who took charge as Pakistan's T20I captain for this series, had begun his tenure in style. In the opening match, per prior reporting on 9 October 2026, he marked his captaincy debut with 89 from 53 balls as Pakistan chased down Sri Lanka's 182 for 8 to win by four wickets in Rawalpindi. He had replaced Salman Ali Agha, who led Pakistan at the 2026 T20 World Cup but was left out of the squad for this series.

Series outcome

Despite the final-match loss, Pakistan had already wrapped up the series. They won the opener by four wickets and the second T20I by a commanding 82 runs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead before Sri Lanka claimed the third game by eight wickets.
