Belghali brilliance powers Torino to a 3-2 win

Torino made it two consecutive Serie A victories with a 3-2 win over Monza, spoiling Ivan Juric’s return to the Olimpico Grande Torino. Rafik Belghali’s curling finish and Nikola Vlašić’s strike gave the hosts control after Monza had briefly levelled the match.

Kian Fitz-Jim opened the scoring six minutes before half-time, collecting Giovanni Simeone’s pass, driving into the penalty area and firing into the roof of the net. Monza responded soon after the restart: Gustavo Varela capitalised on a defensive error and rolled home an equaliser in the 47th minute.

Torino regained the lead in the 61st minute when Belghali skipped past two defenders and curled a superb effort from outside the area into the bottom corner. Noel Törnqvist had made several saves to keep Torino at bay, but had no answer to the wing-back’s strike.

Vlašić extended Torino’s advantage in the 72nd minute, driving a loose ball high into the net from the edge of the area. Monza threatened late on, and Nathan Patterson’s own goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time narrowed the margin to one. Torino held on to take the points.

Goals: Fitz-Jim 39, Varela 47, Belghali 61, Vlašić 72, Patterson own goal 90+4.
