Dani Olmo wants to finish playing career at Dinamo Zagreb, agent Andy Bara confirms

Barcelona and Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has set his sights on an unusual finale to a footballing life shaped in two very different cities. According to his agent, Andy Bara, the 28-year-old wants to finish his playing career at Dinamo Zagreb — the Croatian club he first joined as a teenager after leaving Barcelona's La Masia.

Dani Olmo of Barcelona

"He wants to finish his career at Dinamo"

Bara says Olmo's affection for the Zagreb club runs deeper than mere nostalgia. "He wants to finish his career at Dinamo and hopes that will be the case — even as a coach; he would like to start his managerial career at Dinamo," the agent said. "Dani still walks around the house in a Dinamo jersey with the number 7 and his name on it, even now in Barcelona. Other players approach him, and everyone knows the story: when you mention Olmo, their first association is Dinamo. He is far more connected to Dinamo than those who ought to be, yet aren't."

A career built in two cities

Though born in Catalonia and a product of La Masia who returned to his boyhood club two and a half years ago, Olmo spent his formative years in the Croatian capital. He joined Dinamo at the age of 16 more than a decade ago, growing as both a player and a person before a 2019 move to RB Leipzig eventually paved the way for his return to Barcelona and a key role in Spain's World Cup-winning squad in the summer of 2026.

Olmo's long-term ambition to end his career in Zagreb was first reported by BBC Sport on 2 October 2026, citing Spanish outlet Fichajes. The fresh comments from Bara add the detail that Olmo also envisages beginning his coaching career with the club that helped launch it.

"Zagreb really is the place where Olmo grew as a player and person and opened the doors to a great career that ultimately led to his return to Barça and a key starting role in Spain's World Cup winning squad this summer, so it's not at all surprising to see just how grateful Dani is to a club that helped him so much," the report notes.
