Mark Wood announces retirement from international cricket

Fast bowler calls time on England career

World Cup and Ashes winner Mark Wood has retired from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him become one of England's most feared fast bowlers.

Announcing his decision, Wood said: "the England dream has slowly been ground out of me over the last year."

On BBC World Service's Stumped programme, commentators Alison Mitchell, Jim Maxwell and Charu Sharma looked back at Wood's England career and discussed the toll that fast bowling can take on the body.

The panel reflected on some of Wood's most memorable moments in an England shirt, including his wicket of Australia's Usman Khawaja on day three of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester in July 2023.
