Sri Lanka call up Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige for Colombo Test

Sri Lanka have bolstered their squad for the second Test against India in Colombo by calling up batter Kamil Mishara and all-rounder Sahan Arachchige, with the hosts forced to reshuffle after injuries to key personnel.

Kamil Mishara, uncapped in Tests, drafted into Sri Lanka squad

The two newcomers arrive with the hosts still nursing the fallout from a 165-run defeat in the Galle Test, and are without Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal for the Colombo clash, with Pathum Nissanka also unlikely to feature.

Following the Galle Test, Sri Lanka head coach Gary Kirsten confirmed that Mendis has a "proper hamstring injury" and will not be available for a while. The wicketkeeper-batter had been nursing the problem since the Lanka Premier League and was replaced in the squad by Niroshan Dickwella.

Chandimal, meanwhile, was ruled out following an injury on Day 4, with concussion protocols necessitating a minimum seven-day stand-down time. Pasindu Sooriyabandara was named as his concussion substitute.

Arachchige, who remains uncapped in Test cricket, impressed during the unofficial Tests between the two 'A' sides, scoring 127 in the second game to top the run-charts for Lanka A. While India A won that contest by 10 wickets, his defiant knock at number five while leading the side proved one of the highlights for the hosts.

Mishara looked in fine touch during the Lanka Premier League 2026, his first season in the competition, and carried that momentum by smashing a 72-ball 145 in the Major Clubs T20 tournament on the very same day he was called into the Test squad. The second Test between the two sides gets under way on August 23.
