Surrey seal marquee signing of England all-rounder Freya Kemp on multi-year deal

Surrey have completed the signing of England all-rounder Freya Kemp on a multi-year contract from Hampshire, beginning ahead of the 2027 domestic season.

The 21-year-old left-arm seamer and aggressive middle-order batter has already accumulated 49 caps for England, scoring 585 runs in 36 innings alongside taking 36 wickets across white-ball formats.

Kemp enjoyed an exceptional 2026 campaign on the international stage, featuring prominently in England's run to the Women's T20 World Cup final. During the tournament, she averaged 45.00 with a destructive strike rate of 157.89, while also delivering England's best bowling figures of the tournament with 4-22 against Sri Lanka in the opening fixture.

'An opportunity I couldn't turn down'

Speaking to the club's official website following the announcement, Kemp expressed her excitement about making the switch to the Kia Oval while paying tribute to Hampshire.

"Surrey are a huge club and have an amazing squad," Kemp said. "I am very grateful for my time at Hampshire, who have played a key role in my development to get where I am today.

"It was a hard decision, but the opportunity to play for Surrey and be closer to home was one I couldn't turn down."

Kemp first broke onto the domestic scene at Sussex, making her senior debut at the age of just 14 in the Women's T20 Cup. She subsequently represented Southern Vipers and Hampshire, while also building franchise experience in The Hundred with Southern Brave and Welsh Fire, as well as a stint in Australia with Perth Scorchers in the Women's Big Bash League.

High hopes at the Kia Oval

Emma Calvert, Surrey's director of women's cricket, hailed the arrival of the international star:

"She is an incredibly exciting young player who has already shown her potential on the international stage," Calvert said. "The experience she has gained across international, franchise and domestic cricket, along with her character and work ethic, will be a huge asset to the club both on and off the pitch."

While Surrey have confirmed the deal covers multiple years, the club has not disclosed the precise length of Kemp's contract.
