Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has appealed to the government to develop safe and affordable hostel infrastructure for students across major educational hubs following a tragic five-storey paying guest (PG) building collapse in Delhi that claimed seven lives.

The fatal incident in the national capital has reignited serious concerns regarding student safety, unregulated private accommodations, and the severe shortage of secure, university-managed housing.

Call for Expanding Campus Accommodation

In his plea, Sood suggested that authorities utilize vacant government land situated around universities and colleges to build regulated residential complexes. He emphasized that expanding on-campus and state-supported housing facilities would protect young students from exploitative, substandard, and hazardous living conditions in unmonitored private rentals.

The actor, widely recognized for his extensive humanitarian and relief initiatives—including recent efforts extending support to communities impacted by crises in Nepal—urged policymakers to treat student housing as an urgent public welfare priority rather than leaving it entirely to private operators.
