Sutherland Stars as Sunrisers Leeds Snap Losing Streak in Women's Hundred

Sutherland's All-Round Brilliance Seals Victory for Leeds

Annabel Sutherland produced a stellar all-round display to help Sunrisers Leeds snap their losing streak in the Women's Hundred, guiding her team to a five-wicket victory over London Spirit in a tense chase of 137.

Annabel Sutherland celebrates her match-winning knock for Sunrisers Leeds

With just one run needed off three balls, Sutherland sealed the victory in style, launching Nadine de Klerk over the midwicket fence for a six. The Australian all-rounder finished unbeaten on 37, playing a measured and sensible innings that brought Leeds home after a nervy finish.

Opening Pair Sets Strong Platform

The chase got off to an enterprising start thanks to the new opening pair of Phoebe Litchfield and Bryony Smith, who raced past 50 by the 32nd ball. However, Leeds lost three wickets in the space of seven balls, slipping to 59/3 and creating tension in the chase.

Deepti Sharma fell trying to force a big stroke with 14 needed in nine balls, while Dani Gibson was dismissed by Katie George, ending a crucial 48-run partnership with Sutherland that had put Leeds on course for victory.

Sutherland Finds Support in Jonassen

Batting at number seven after a reshuffle pushed her down from her opening role, Jess Jonassen provided vital support to Sutherland in the final overs. Two balls before the winning six, Jonassen thumped a crucial four to start off the final set and put Leeds in front.

Spirit's Collapse After Rain Break

London Spirit had looked well-placed at 89/1 after 50 balls, with Grace Harris marching towards a fifty. However, rain intervened and ignited a collapse for the home side.

Three balls after play resumed, Harris was dismissed for 51. Marizanne Kapp tried to hold the innings together, but Spirit kept tumbling and were reduced to 126/7. Only Deandra Dottin gave Kapp sizeable company, getting into double-digits.

Amy Jones had fallen earlier for 24, trying to beat mid-off, with Dani Gibson claiming the wicket that gave Leeds an opening at 67/0.

Sutherland and Sharma Shine with Ball

With plenty of bowling options, Spirit could afford to use Deepti Sharma as their seventh bowler. The Indian all-rounder looped the ball with little speed, playing a key role in silencing the Leeds middle order by claiming two wickets while giving away just 18 runs.

However, Sutherland's cross-seam magic had already cleaned up Kapp earlier, restricting Spirit to 136/7 in their 100 balls. Sutherland returned to deliver with the bat as well, deservedly earning the Player of the Match award for her match-winning contribution.
