Kompany Allays Injury Fears as Bayern Lose Kim Min-jae and Luis Díaz in Arsenal Draw
Kompany Plays Down Double Injury Blow
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has moved to calm fears over a double injury scare after Min-jae Kim and Luis Díaz both had to leave the pitch during Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League.
The Bavarians were dealt the setback in a hard-fought European night, with the defensive pairing of Kim and Díaz both unable to complete the match. Kim was withdrawn at half-time, while Díaz — who had carried a knock into the game — was introduced from the bench in the second half before being forced off again shortly before full-time.
"We Can Already Rule Out Any Serious Injuries"
Speaking after the final whistle, Kompany offered a positive assessment of both players and suggested the club has avoided the worst-case scenario.
"I hope the recovery timelines are similar for both. That means not too long, perhaps less than a week," he said. "I think we can already rule out any serious injuries."
If Kompany's optimistic outlook holds, Bayern will be hopeful of having both players back available in short order as a demanding run of fixtures continues.
Freiburg Trip Likely to Come Too Soon
Despite the encouraging early prognosis, both Kim and Díaz look likely to miss at least Sunday's Bundesliga away fixture against Freiburg, meaning Kompany will need to reshuffle his options for the domestic encounter.
The 2-2 result against Arsenal leaves Bayern balancing European ambitions with the grind of the Bundesliga schedule, and the fitness of two key contributors will be a central talking point in the days ahead.
