Ashraful leaves Bangladesh set-up ahead of home Tests

Bangladesh have removed Mohammad Ashraful as batting coach ahead of their two-Test home series against West Indies, which is scheduled to begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on October 28.

Ashraful confirmed to Cricbuzz that he was no longer working with the national team. “Yes, I am not working with the national team,” he said, adding: “I am waiting for my next assignment.” He had taken part in a training session with the national players on Saturday before the series.

Salahuddin expected to step in

BCB High Performance Unit head coach Mohammad Salahuddin is expected to replace Ashraful on an interim basis for the West Indies series. A board official told Cricbuzz that the BCB was “in discussion with some foreign batting coaches.”

The move follows poor batting displays in the Asian Games in Japan and the tri-nation series in Abu Dhabi. During Ashraful’s tenure, Bangladesh won five of eight Tests, drew one and lost two. The source also credits the team with 11 centuries in 34 international matches between November 2025 and October 2026.

Mixed results during Ashraful’s spell

Bangladesh had several notable results during his time in the role, including Test series wins over Ireland and Pakistan, and their first men’s ODI series victory over Australia. The team’s record was not uniformly strong: Australia won the T20I series 3-0 in June, while the Test series in August finished 1-1 after Bangladesh won in Darwin and then suffered a heavy defeat in Mackay.
