Liberali scores first Serie A goal for Como and backs young Italians
Liberali scores first Serie A goal and credits Fabregas for freedom
Mattia Liberali insists there is plenty of young Italian talent coming through in Serie A this season, and thanked Como head coach Cesc Fabregas for leaving him to 'do his thing' after scoring in Como's 3-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday afternoon.
The 19-year-old scored the first Serie A goal of his career in the away win at the Stadio Franchi. He became the first Italian to score for Como since Patrick Cutrone in May 2025.

A first touch that set up the goal
Liberali's finish was well taken. He sent his marker the wrong way with his first touch to cut inside from the right flank, then bent a shot into the far corner with his left foot.
He said the first touch was the key to the move, but that the result mattered more than the goal itself.
"It was great, but I'm also happy for the victory we earned. I've worked hard and the results come with perseverance."
"The touch was definitely 80% of the goal. The shot is one we do every day, but the control set it all up and sent the defender packing."
Freedom under Fabregas
Liberali said Fabregas does not overload him with information or instructions, which he believes makes his life easier on the pitch.
"Fabregas doesn't tell me anything, he lets me stay calm and do my thing, and maybe that's the key. I hugged him out of pure joy after the goal."
A generation of young Italians
Asked about the quality and quantity of Italian talent emerging in the league, Liberali was upbeat.
"I see a lot of good young Italians this year. I'm very happy for Cisse and we speak often. I also wrote to Lulli, I'm really pleased for him. I played with them in the youth teams and we've done well together, now they're showing their qualities."
