Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier give Bournemouth first Premier League win as Kevin Danso is sent off
Bournemouth end winless run as Danso red card decides game
Marco Rose finally has his first Premier League win as Bournemouth manager, after a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday. The result lifts the Cherries to 15th in the table, while Sunderland slump to 19th after a fourth successive league defeat.
The hosts took the lead in the sixth minute. Kevin Danso and Omar Alderete failed to deal with a routine long ball, allowing Evanilson to nip in and lay the ball off for Marcus Tavernier, who headed home from close range. The Brazilian's unselfish choice to pass rather than shoot was emblematic of a Bournemouth side that pressed high from the start.

Danso's dismissal changes the match
Sunderland's problems deepened in the 17th minute. Danso, on loan from Tottenham, was shown a straight red card for denying Evanilson a clear goalscoring opportunity, hauling the striker down as he went through on goal. Referee Craig Pawson had little option but to send him off. Sunderland were left to defend with ten men for more than 70 minutes.
Bournemouth, who had previously let winning positions slip, were given a chance to press their advantage and first-half chances piled up. Robin Roefs was called on repeatedly to keep the score down, while Sunderland's defence was visibly split over the blame for Rayan and Evanilson having so much space.
Evanilson doubles the lead
The second goal arrived shortly after the restart. Alderete's loose back-pass gave Evanilson the chance he needed, and he rounded Roefs before rolling the ball into an empty net in the 48th minute. It was a popular finish for a player who has been among the club's most successful recent signings.
Bournemouth could have scored more. They had 29 shots by the 70th minute, and Rayan's header was cleared off the line. Sunderland came to life late on, with Justin Kluivert flashing a strike inches wide in added time, but Bournemouth saw out the game with composure.
Pressure grows on Le Bris
For Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris, the defeat adds to mounting problems. The club have not won a league game since August, and their squad is being stretched by a demanding schedule that includes a European trip to Lech Poznan on Thursday. Talks about a possible sale to new investors have also continued, with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus taking charge of day-to-day operations in a boardroom reshuffle.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, face Milan in the Europa League later this week, with Rose determined that the league win will give his side a platform to build on.
