Pakistan set unwanted Test record in crushing innings defeat against England at Headingley

Pakistan have set an unwanted piece of Test cricket history after losing their opening wicket without scoring a single run in both innings during a crushing defeat to England at Headingley.

Pakistan create unwanted Test record against England at Headingley

The dismal sequence began in Pakistan's first innings when Azan Awais fell lbw to Ollie Robinson on the very first delivery he faced, leaving the tourists at 0/1. The exact same scenario unfolded in the second innings on Friday when opening batter Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for a five-ball duck in the second over to once again leave the scoreboard reading 0/1.

While losing a wicket for zero is familiar to Test cricket, suffering the setback in both innings of the same match is extraordinarily rare. The Headingley collapse marks the seventh time Pakistan have endured this misfortune in their history, making them the first nation ever to do so seven times across 472 Tests—an average of roughly once every 68 matches. England follow in second place, having experienced the scenario five times in their 1,098 Tests.

England Seamers Run Riot in Three-Day Victory

The statistical lowlight came amid a comprehensive defeat for the visitors, who were beaten by an innings and 103 runs inside three days. After England posted a commanding first-innings total of 409, Pakistan were dismissed for just 135 in their second innings, handing Joe Root a triumphant start in his return as Test captain.

England's pace attack proved relentless throughout the contest. Player of the Match Ollie Robinson spearheaded the bowling with match figures of 8/80, while Josh Tongue also claimed eight wickets, finishing with 8/89.

Although Pakistan entered the fixture buoyed by a drawn series in the West Indies, their batting lineup had no answers for England's disciplined seam bowling. Mohammad Rizwan provided lone resistance, top-scoring with 41 in the second innings, but Pakistan could not establish substantial partnerships and folded before tea on day three.

England now hold a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the second Test set to take place at Lord's.
