Ryan Campbell Appointed Durham Director of Cricket as Search Begins for New Head Coach

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell has stepped down from his position to become the club's new director of cricket and high performance coaching.

The 54-year-old Australian takes over the senior role vacated by compatriot Marcus North, who departed earlier this summer after being named England's national selector.

A Successful Coaching Tenure

Campbell, who previously served as head coach of the Netherlands men's national team, has enjoyed a prolific four-season spell at the helm of Durham's first team. Under his stewardship, the county won County Championship Division Two on two occasions, including an undefeated campaign this summer to seal promotion back to Division One.

With his internal promotion confirmed, Campbell will now play an instrumental role in selecting and appointing his successor as head coach while preparing the squad for life back in the top flight.

"Moving into the director of cricket and high performance coaching role isn't stepping back, it's a chance to keep shaping the direction of this club, and I'm really looking forward to it," Campbell told the club's official website.

Ensuring Stability and Continuity

Durham chief executive Tim Bostock highlighted Campbell's deep understanding of the club culture and emphasized the value of continuity as the county transitions into its next chapter.

"He has big shoes to fill in replacing Marcus North but continuity was an important factor in making this decision alongside delivering our long-term vision for Durham Cricket," Bostock said.

"Ryan, like Marcus, understands the passion for cricket in the north east and totally buys into producing outstanding cricketers who will bring success for Durham and of course England in the years to come."
