Nathan Lyon joins Shane Warne as second Australian spinner to complete 600 international wickets
Lyon reaches 600 in Mackay Test
Nathan Lyon added another landmark to his international career on 23 August 2026 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, becoming only the fifth Australian bowler and second Australian spinner to claim 600 international wickets.
Lyon reached the feat in the second innings of the second Test against Bangladesh after being rested in Australia’s first innings. He returned to take 3 for 25 in 11.3 overs, taking his international tally to 601.
The milestone puts Lyon alongside Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Starc and Brett Lee in Australia’s 600-plus international wicket club. Affectionately known as 'The GOAT' among teammates, Lyon has built his legacy largely in Tests. The 38-year-old has 571 wickets in 143 Tests at 30.20, making him Australia’s second-highest Test wicket-taker behind Shane Warne’s 708.
Across formats Lyon has 24 five-wicket hauls and five 10-wicket match hauls, with best figures of 8 for 50. He also has 29 wickets in 29 ODIs and one wicket in two T20Is.
