'Unstoppable': Ter Stegen hails Hansi Flick's flying Barcelona from afar

Ter Stegen: 'They're unstoppable right now'

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has hailed the incredible start to the season made by his parent club Barcelona under Hansi Flick, branding the Catalans 'unstoppable' in his first public verdict on their early form.

The goalkeeper, currently spending the season on loan at Ajax, was asked about Barca after featuring for Germany in the Nations League against the Netherlands on Thursday night.

"They're unstoppable right now. They are working hard with Hansi as a coach," he told reporters. "From a distance I always wish them the best, but now I'm at another club and focused on my thing, always looking at what they're doing. I'm very happy for them."

Back to his best after injury hell

Ter Stegen is back playing after a tough spell with injuries and is determined to keep hold of the No. 1 jersey for both his national team and his club side, with the 34-year-old showing no signs of easing off his personal standards.

"My goal is always to be number 1. I want to always be 100% and up to the task and today was a good time to show it again. I also have a lot to improve and I have to adapt to what the coach asks," he added.

Klopp's Germany debut ends all square

The interview came after Germany's 1-1 draw in Jurgen Klopp's first game in charge, a result that offered encouragement for the new coach's project. The two sides meet again on Sunday against Greece, with ter Stegen hoping to build on a solid return to international action.

For Barcelona, the early evidence under Flick is proving hard to ignore — and even their own players, watching from afar, cannot help but be impressed.
