Andy Robertson rejects calls to strip Manchester City titles after financial breaches
Former Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has defended Manchester City’s players following news that the club has been found guilty of multiple breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules, insisting that on-pitch achievements should not be stripped or diminished.

The Scotland captain, who engaged in fierce title battles against Manchester City during his nine-year spell at Anfield from 2017 before moving to Tottenham, learned of the verdict while travelling from a training camp in Spain to Slovenia for international duty.
With severe sanctions potentially on the table—including retrospective trophy stripping—Robertson made it clear he opposes taking titles away from the squad that earned them on the pitch.
“For me, the players showed they were good enough on the pitch,” said the 32-year-old. “I don’t know too much about the charges and stuff like that. But they had an incredible team, one that I loved battling against. I don’t think when it comes to these things that players are ever to blame. That’s all I can focus on.”
Robertson’s stance offers a contrasting tone to that of his former manager Jürgen Klopp, who previously quipped that he would throw a party if Manchester City were stripped of their silverware.
Robertson is set to win his 98th international cap when Scotland face Slovenia in the Nations League on Saturday, moving within four appearances of Kenny Dalglish’s all-time national record.
