Real Salt Lake head coach Pablo Mastroeni has warned that his side faces a "dire situation" in the Western Conference playoff race after dynamic young winger Zach Booth was sidelined with a serious hamstring injury.

The Excelsior loanee pulled up clutching his hamstring early on during RSL's 1-1 draw against Minnesota United on Saturday. With Designated Player Morgan Guilavogui already unavailable due to MLS concussion protocols, Booth's setback leaves the Utah outfit severely depleted in attack ahead of Wednesday's clash with FC Dallas.

Speaking to KSL Sports, Mastroeni provided a grim prognosis on the 20-year-old winger's recovery timeline.

"Just to be clear, with an injury like that to any player – but especially a player with his speed – with all the stress he must put on his hamstring... I assume it will be at least a month, but it could be more than that," Mastroeni said. "I think it will be more like six to eight weeks. And the majority of our games are in the next two months."

"So I think it's a bit of a dire situation for us at the moment, and that was always the concern. Zach hasn't played a whole lot of minutes, and now getting thrown in and with how he uses his speed, it was always a concern. It's unfortunate for the young man, he was doing great."

Playoff Push Under Pressure

Real Salt Lake currently sit seventh in the Western Conference, holding the final automatic playoff berth with matches in hand over most of their rivals. However, their winless streak in regular-season play has now stretched to five games (three draws, two defeats), having repeatedly surrendered leads—including conceding a late equalizer against Minnesota.

Wednesday's opponents, FC Dallas, sit two points and two places above RSL in fifth following a 2-1 derby victory over Texas rivals Austin FC.

Players in the Spotlight

In Booth's absence, RSL will lean heavily on forward Sergi Solans, who netted his second goal in as many games against Minnesota. Solans has contributed to 11 goals across his first 18 MLS appearances—a tally only surpassed in club history by Cristian Arango (19) and Albert Rusnak (12) over the same opening span.

Dallas will look to Petar Musa, who scored the winner against Austin to take his tally to 49 goals for the club in all MLS matches. A goal on Wednesday would see Musa join Jason Kreis (95) and Jesus Ferreira (54) as only the third player in FC Dallas history to reach 50 career goals across regular-season and playoff competition.
