Vinicius Junior Focuses on Real Madrid Future Amid Arsenal Interest

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has made his intentions clear this summer, dismissing widespread transfer speculation linking him with a blockbuster move to Premier League champions Arsenal. The Brazilian winger is instead concentrating on making an impact under new head coach Jose Mourinho as Madrid prepare for their LaLiga season opener against Espanyol on August 22.

€150m Arsenal Link Denied

Reports emerging this summer suggested Arsenal were preparing a transfer bid in the region of €150m (£128m) for the 24-year-old forward. However, Vinicius has remained steadfast in his commitment to Los Blancos, where he has spent eight years and helped secure 14 trophies including two Champions League titles and three LaLiga championships.

Last season presented challenges for the Brazilian, who scored 22 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions. His 32 total goal involvements marked his lowest output in a single campaign for Madrid since the 2020-21 season.

Mourinho Relationship Key to Future

The return of Jose Mourinho as Madrid's head coach initially raised questions about Vinicius' role in the team, given the Portuguese manager's reputation for a defence-first tactical approach. There were also suggestions that Vinicius might struggle to play effectively alongside fellow forward Kylian Mbappe in the same frontline.

However, Vinicius has expressed confidence in his relationship with the new coach. Speaking to Madrid's official media channels during pre-season, he said:

"It's gone very well, meeting the new coach and the new players and training very hard. Mourinho wants me to be as I've always been; happy, cheerful, and playing my football."

Pre-Season Preparation Underway

The forward emphasized the importance of physical preparation during the pre-season period to minimize injuries throughout the campaign.

"We have to prepare physically so that during the season we have fewer injuries and we can count on everybody. [Monday] was a double session, [Tuesday] is one session. So, let's go. Today we did a bit of work in the gym and a short session to load our legs some more."

He added: "It was a good training session and we all left very tired, but now it's time to rest for tomorrow. Pre-season is like this. We have to be prepared."

Previous Coaching Challenges

Vinicius did not see eye-to-eye with Xabi Alonso during the now-Chelsea boss' brief spell in charge of Madrid last season, though he maintained a better working relationship with Alvaro Arbeloa, who took over for the second half of the campaign.

On the international stage, Vinicius was Brazil's standout performer at the World Cup, scoring four goals and assisting one in five appearances, though he could not prevent their round-of-16 defeat to Norway.

For now, all attention turns to Madrid's LaLiga opener as Vinicius looks to silence the transfer talk with performances on the pitch.
