Alejandro Balde has made the definitive call to stay put at Barcelona and fight for his place over the season ahead. That is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an insight into the defender's thinking.

Balde has seen his name dominate the headlines in Catalunya's capital over the last week. After reports began to mount that the Spaniard could be on the move before the summer is out, he was left out of Hansi Flick's squad for Barcelona's La Liga opener against Elche.

From there, Premier League heavyweights Manchester United, amid an ongoing hunt for reinforcements at left-back, were credited with an interest in the defender's services.

Old Trafford need to look elsewhere

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, the Old Trafford brass will need to look elsewhere for fresh blood at the back.

As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:

'Understand Alejandro Balde has informed Barcelona about his desire to stay at the club and compete for a spot. His intention is clear; decision up to the club after exploring sale. Only a big proposal from a top club can change the scenario from now to Deadline Day.'

The full-back's intention is evidently to remain in Catalunya and battle for minutes under Hansi Flick, with his future now effectively in the hands of Barcelona's hierarchy ahead of the transfer deadline.
