Szoboszlai: 'Not My Job' to Comment on Liverpool Transfers Amid Squad Overhaul

Szoboszlai Defends Liverpool's Transfer Strategy Amid Fan Concerns

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has insisted it is not his responsibility to dictate the club's transfer activity, as the team navigates a period of significant change following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

"It's not my job to say who we have to sign or if we have to sign someone," Szoboszlai said. "But if the guys above and the manager decide to sign someone then we'll be very happy and welcome them well. If they decide not to then we get on with it, and we have to do something special with this squad."

The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League last season with 60 points—their lowest tally in a top-five finish since 2006-07 and joint-lowest ever for a Champions League qualifier via league position. Key departures include Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, while Andoni Iraola has replaced Arne Slot as manager. Liverpool have signed Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz this summer and remain linked with PSG's Bradley Barcola.

With squad depth a concern, Szoboszlai highlighted the potential of young talents like 19-year-old Trey Nyoni, who impressed in pre-season. "I knew always that Trey is a good player," he said. "The youngsters at the back also did very well... The squad is short so we need everybody."
