Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of midfielder Florentino from Burnley, as the newly promoted club continue their ambitious summer rebuild ahead of their Premier League return.

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Portman Road, with the Tractor Boys agreeing a deal worth an initial £16m with the Clarets, plus a further £3m in performance-related add-ons.

Champions League pedigree arrives at Portman Road

Florentino arrives in Suffolk with significant top-level experience. The midfielder joined Burnley on an initial loan deal from Benfica last summer before making the move permanent, and he went on to make 31 Premier League appearances last season, providing two assists as the Clarets finished 19th and suffered relegation back to the Championship.

He also brings European pedigree to Gary O'Neil's squad, having played 24 times in the Champions League during his time with Benfica — experience that could prove invaluable for a side preparing for the rigours of the top flight.

Speaking to Ipswich's official website after completing the move, Florentino made clear that the club's long-term vision was central to his decision.

"It feels brilliant to be a part of this club," he said. "I think I will be very happy here. I like how the club sees the future and there are a lot of good players here.

"How the club is thinking of the long term is one of the main reasons I came here. I can bring experience and balance to the team, between defence and attack, and I like to bring the connection.

"Now I have signed, I can't wait to meet my team-mates and the fans and get started with the team."

Ninth signing of a busy summer

Ipswich are not resting on their laurels this summer, with Florentino the latest addition through the doors at Portman Road. He becomes the club's ninth first-team signing of the window, joining the likes of Daizen Maeda, Issa Diop and Emersonn as the newly promoted outfit gear up for life back in the Premier League.

Gary O'Neil's side begin their 2026-27 Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on August 22, before travelling to Manchester United for their first away fixture of the season eight days later.
