Waterlogged pitch forces Barrow–Forest Green match to be abandoned after 14 minutes
Match abandoned after conditions deteriorate
Barrow’s National League fixture against Forest Green Rovers was abandoned in the 14th minute after heavy rain left the pitch waterlogged, bringing an abrupt end to a match that had been cleared to start following a lengthy inspection.
Barrow took the lead in the first minute, but puddles were already slowing the ball on the sodden surface. The decisive incident came when a back-pass from Barrow’s Marcel Oakley held up in the penalty area. Forest Green’s Sean Etaluku was presented with a chance, which he missed, before the referee stopped the game.

Clubs acknowledge frustrated travelling supporters
Barrow announced on X that the match had been called off “due to circumstances beyond our control”. Forest Green described the incident leading to the decision as the “deciding factor” and said: “We understand this is very frustrating for the FGR supporters who have travelled to Barrow today. We wish you all safe travels back home.” The journey from Forest Green’s home ground to Barrow-in-Furness is around four hours by car.
At 2.30pm, half an hour before kick-off, Forest Green had posted that the general consensus at the ground was the match would go ahead after the referee’s “lengthy” pitch inspection. Storm Boelo and heavy rain were affecting conditions across the country.
Elsewhere, the National League South fixture between Weston-super-Mare and Billericay was suspended, while Cove Rangers’ League One match against East Kilbride in Scotland was called off.
