Mosaddek Hossain and Nurul Hasan Recalled to Bangladesh Squad for Australia ODIs
Tactical Shifts in Bangladesh Squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday, June 3, announced a 15-member squad for the first two matches of a three-game ODI series against Australia. The selection is marked by the return of all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan, signaling a tactical redirection in the team's composition.
The Return of Mosaddek Hossain
Mosaddek Hossain returns to the ODI setup after a hiatus of nearly four years, having last appeared in August 2022. His recall is attributed to a stellar run in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), where he scored 310 runs across six innings at an impressive average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17, including one century and two half-centuries. He also contributed significantly with the ball, claiming 12 wickets in seven innings.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar emphasized the value Mosaddek brings to the team's balance, particularly at the number six position. "At number six, his skill level can be more useful for us. He is also an experienced player, he has played before, and he is in very good form in the Premier League," Bashar stated. He further added that Mosaddek's all-round capabilities address a frequent shortage of bowling options when playing with five specialist batters.
Nurul Hasan's Strategic Inclusion
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan has also been reintegrated into the squad, replacing Mahidul Islam Ankon. The selectors' decision was based on batting positions; while Ankon typically operates in the top order, Sohan is more adept at batting at numbers six and seven.
"We are considering a wicketkeeper-batter who will likely bat at six or seven, and in that role, we feel Sohan is more skilled and his abilities will be more useful for us," Bashar explained. The squad also sees the omission of Afif Hossain, with the selector noting that while Afif deserved more opportunities, tactical changes were necessary for the current series.
Series Schedule and Squad
The three-match series is set to commence on June 9, with subsequent matches on June 11 and 14. All games will be hosted at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
