BCCI Launches Emerging Men's Tournament at Centre of Excellence to Scout Future Test Stars
Hunting for the Next Generation of Test Cricketers
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the commencement of the Emerging Men's Tournament at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Scheduled to take place from July 6 to July 24, the tournament serves as a strategic exercise to identify and nurture promising young talents who possess the potential to represent India in the longest format of the game.
The competition will feature four teams competing in a red-ball format, with each team playing three matches of four-day duration. The participants are selected from the Under-25 category, consisting of players who have either represented India in age-group cricket or have emerged as standout performers in domestic circuits.
Expert Coaching and Leadership
To ensure the players receive top-tier guidance, the BCCI has appointed several former India internationals and seasoned coaches to lead the squads:
- Team A: Led by captain Uday Saharan, the team will be coached by Wasim Jaffer, with Sourashish Lahiri serving as the assistant coach.
- Team B: Captained by Karnataka batter Ravichandran Smaran, this side will be under the guidance of head coach Ramesh Powar and assistant coach Anshu Jain. Smaran enters the tournament with an impressive first-class record, boasting 1,534 runs in 17 matches at an average of 73.04.
- Team C: Under the leadership of 2022 U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull, the team will be coached by Vineet Saxena, with Siddharth Trivedi as the assistant coach.
- Team D: Led by Himateja K, this squad will be managed by head coach Debasish Mohanty and assistant coach Vinit Indulkar.
By placing high-potential youngsters under the tutelage of experienced coaches like Jaffer and Powar, the BCCI aims to bridge the gap between domestic excellence and the rigors of International Test cricket.
