Ivory Coast Striker Elye Wahi Denied Entry to Canada Amid Spot-Fixing Investigation

Legal Troubles Halt World Cup Campaign

Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi has been denied entry into Canada, leaving him unable to join his teammates for their second World Cup group match against Germany this Saturday. The 23-year-old's absence comes after revelations that he was arrested in France less than two weeks before the tournament began on suspicion of fixing offences.

Wahi, who started in the Ivory Coast's opening victory over Ecuador in Philadelphia, will remain in the United States. The Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) confirmed the situation in an official statement, noting that the necessary administrative authorizations for his entry into Canada could not be obtained.

"To date, the FIF has not been officially notified of any judicial or administrative proceedings involving him... In this particularly difficult time, FIF gives its full support to the player," the federation stated.
