British Cricketer Jamie Spence Dies in Car Crash in New Zealand
A British cricketer, Jamie Spence, has tragically lost his life in a car accident in New Zealand. The 28-year-old was killed on April 29 near Kinleith on New Zealand’s North Island in a crash that also claimed the life of another man, Raphael Jean-Gabriel Roellinger, a French national.
Hull Strikers Mourn the Loss of a Passionate Teammate
Jamie, who hailed from Yorkshire, was a member of the Hull Strikers, a local cricket club. The club has described him as one of the most energetic and passionate players they have ever had. In a heartfelt tribute, the club said: “A true member of the Strikers family from the very beginning, Jamie was our youngest, yet one of the most energetic, fun-loving, and passionate souls on and off the field.”
The club also highlighted how much Jamie loved the game and how he brought life to the team. “His smile, his spirit, and his love for the game brought life to our club,” they said. “He wasn’t just a player - he was one of the biggest supporters of this club, always bringing energy, passion, and a smile that lifted everyone around him.”
Team Plays Emotional Match in Tribute
Just days after Jamie’s passing, the Hull Strikers played their scheduled match against Hessle CC with only 10 players and won by seven runs. The team dedicated the victory to Jamie. The club described the moment as “special and emotional” for everyone involved, especially with Jamie’s father, Jon, in attendance.
“This victory is for you. There is no better tribute than giving everything out there, just like you always did. You’ll always be a part of this team. Forever a Striker,” the club concluded in its tribute.
