Andy Robertson Confirms No New Contract from Liverpool, Eager to Secure Next Move Before World Cup
Robertson's Liverpool Exit: No Contract Offer and Urgent Search for New Club
Andy Robertson's journey with Liverpool FC is drawing to a close after nine memorable years, but the Scottish international is wasting no time in planning his next chapter. The left-back, who will depart Anfield at the end of the 2024-25 season alongside Mohamed Salah, disclosed that he was never presented with an opportunity to extend his stay with the Reds.

Robertson, who made his 374th appearance for Liverpool in a 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday—the club's first home game since the departures were announced—has been relegated to a backup role this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. He has only started 16 matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign, logging 1,686 minutes, a sharp decline from his previous seasons where he consistently featured in at least 23 starts and over 2,193 minutes.
During his tenure, Robertson contributed to major successes, including the Premier League titles in 2019-20 under Jurgen Klopp and 2024-25 under Arne Slot, as well as the Champions League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups.
Speaking candidly about the situation, Robertson expressed relief at the transparency of his exit. "It means I don't need to lie to everyone, so it's a weight off my shoulders," he told The Athletic. "It's not like I've knocked back a contract or anything, there was no contract on the table. It was a conversation we all had."
He emphasized his desire to continue playing at a high level: "It was a conversation of, 'Okay, this is what I want to do, I want to play and I believe I've still got the ability to play'. I think I have showed that this season."
With Scotland's first World Cup appearance since 1998 on the horizon—facing Haiti in Group C on June 13 in Foxborough—Robertson is keen to resolve his club future beforehand. "Last summer it was kind of close and I decided to stay. It was the same in January. I will be looking to sort my future out sooner rather than later," he added. "I don't want to be going to the World Cup with anything hanging over my head. But as of yet, there's nothing. We’ll see where the future lies for me and my family."
