Shubman Gill struck on right elbow ahead of West Indies ODI opener
Gill leaves nets after painful blow
India captain Shubman Gill was struck on his right elbow while batting in the nets ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.

The blow came from a delivery by Mohammed Siraj, two days before the one-day international. Gill immediately left the nets visibly in pain, clutching his elbow, with Siraj checking on him before the physio accompanied him away from the batting area.
Gill then spent roughly 45 minutes seated on a cooler box beside the nets. The physio assessed his movement before applying an ice pack, which remained in place for about 20 minutes. A piece of plaster was later applied to the elbow as the India captain continued to rest.
Siraj stayed with Gill initially, while Rohit Sharma briefly checked on him. Virat Kohli and Gurnoor Brar also sat beside him during the treatment. Gill later shared a smile with Yashasvi Jaiswal and mimicked a shot with his left elbow while keeping the injured right arm straight.
The physio reapplied the ice pack more than an hour after the impact and conducted another assessment around 90 minutes after the blow. Gill did not return to batting, but he was able to pack up his protective equipment himself and leave the nets carrying his bat in one hand and pads in the other.
The incident leaves Gill's availability for the opening ODI subject to further assessment, with no confirmed diagnosis or update on the severity of the injury reported at the time.
