Germany striker Deniz Undav believes Jurgen Klopp's appointment as head coach will bring a "new energy" to the national team, as the country looks to bounce back from a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Klopp was confirmed as Germany's new boss last month, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who departed after the four-time champions were stunned by Paraguay on penalties in the last 32 — their first knockout-stage match since lifting the trophy in 2014.

Undav made four appearances at the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, though he started just one match, racking up 149 minutes of action. He did, however, score three times — including a late double to secure a comeback victory over Ivory Coast.

The Stuttgart striker is confident Klopp's arrival can serve Germany well, though he acknowledged he will need to earn his place in the squad under the new regime.

"I think a change of coach is like a club change; every player has to prove themselves anew, there's new energy," Undav told reporters at Stuttgart's pre-season camp. "It could be a completely different line-up than under the previous national coach. So just perform well, and then hopefully I'll be appreciated and invited."

Despite Germany's early exit, Undav said he was able to quickly put the disappointment behind him.

"That took about a week [to get over]," he added. "None of us expected it, and that's why it came as a surprise to everyone, but as I said, they were just mental exercises for me."

Germany's first match under Klopp will see them face the Netherlands in the Nations League on September 24.
