Monga Chooses City Over Arsenal

Jeremy Monga has opened up about his decision to join Manchester City instead of Arsenal this summer, describing the move as a "no-brainer" despite being close to sealing a switch to the Gunners.

The 17-year-old forward was seeking a move away from Leicester City following the Foxes' relegation to League One. As the third-youngest player to appear in a Premier League match, Monga attracted interest from several top clubs across England.

'Very Close' to Joining Arsenal

Monga revealed that Arsenal's interest was serious and he was on the verge of joining the Premier League champions before making a late switch to Manchester City, who are now coached by former Leicester boss Enzo Maresca.

"It [Arsenal interest] was very strong because it was very close to me going there, very close," Monga told BBC Sport.

"The main decision was probably the pathway and the club itself. They've been so successful that it was a no-brainer when City called. It's every child's dream to win trophies and be at the top with the best."

Seeing Himself in Blue

The teenager expressed confidence in his future at the Etihad Stadium, stating he believes City offers him the best opportunity to develop and break into the first team.

"Once I get the opportunity, I just need to show myself, and once I do that, everything will take care of itself. I feel like, to me personally, I see myself at City more. I see myself in blue," Monga added.

Monga made his first appearance for City off the bench against the K-League Stars on Wednesday, marking the beginning of his new chapter in Manchester.

Hazard Inspiration

Despite joining City, Monga's footballing idol remains Chelsea legend Eden Hazard. When asked what he admires about Hazard's game, the young forward said: "Definitely his directness, him taking the game by the scruff of the neck, trying to win the game by himself, and definitely the way he manipulates the ball, trying to implement that into my game."

"Even the way he protects the ball from his opponents and moves around the pitch, everything is what I want to do."
