Barcelona Make Final Attempt for Álvarez

Barcelona have reached the decisive stage in their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, with the club preparing to make one last push to secure the Argentine's signature before the transfer window closes.

According to Diario SPORT, sporting director Deco met with Álvarez's agent in Madrid to design the strategy for what has been described as Barça's "final attempt." The club is prepared to raise their initial offer of €100 million, while Álvarez himself will make a second gesture to convince Atlético to sell.

Álvarez Sends Transfer Promise to Barcelona

The Atlético Madrid star has assured those in positions of power at Barcelona of his readiness to do whatever it takes to push through a transfer this summer. Unlike during the World Cup, Álvarez will not go public with his demands.

As reported by Sport: "Julián has already communicated with his entourage to (Barcelona director) Deco at the last summit in Madrid that he will directly transfer to the Atlético sporting management that his desire is still to leave the club this summer to sign for Barça."

The plan is for Álvarez to meet with Atlético CEO Gil Marín and director of football Mateu Alemany when he returns to training on Monday to once again express his desire to leave Atlético and sign for Barcelona. While keen to maintain his professionalism and avoid burning bridges, he will make a clear request to Atlético's executives with the hope they will finally agree to negotiate.

Tactical Fit for Flick's System

On paper, Álvarez looks like a very good fit for Barcelona and the system that Hansi Flick has built. He presses like a machine, is built for possession-based football after years spent with Pep Guardiola, and is a lethal finisher who can put the ball in the net in a multitude of ways.

Álvarez signed for Atlético Madrid two summers ago, at the same time when Flick arrived in Barcelona. The Barca boss has delivered two La Liga trophies with an aging Robert Lewandowski and an inconsistent Ferran Torres, but the club is now seeking a long-term solution up front.

Plan B Ready if Atlético Refuse

Crucially, Barcelona already have a contingency plan in place if Atlético once again refuse to talk. According to reports, Barça have already lined up a Plan B that appears to be at an "advanced" stage, with the club ready to pull the trigger as soon as they decide to walk away from the Álvarez deal.

Alternative options mentioned include Victor Osimhen, who isn't cheap but is a player on the same level as Álvarez, and Dušan Vlahović, who is available as a free agent at 26 years old.

Negotiation Concerns

However, some observers warn that Barcelona are not in a great position of leverage, and Atlético Madrid know it. The pursuit of Álvarez has left the Blaugrana looking desperate, and for a club with unstable finances, that is not a position to negotiate from.

As one analysis noted: "There are other fish in the sea, and Barcelona should have made it clear publicly that they have other options in mind who could just as well be a striker solution. That puts pressure on the players in the market to show they are serious about joining the club, while not showing other clubs how weak their position is."

With one month to go before the market closes, Barcelona's rivals are locked and loaded. The Blaugrana still have work to do, and the most important question remains: who's going to score the goals?
