Ferrari Surprises at Spa-Francorchamps

Ferrari delivered an unexpected performance at the Belgian Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc securing second place despite pre-race predictions that the team would struggle significantly at Spa.

Leclerc reminded everyone during the post-race news conference that Ferrari was "expected to be very far back, maybe to the extent of four or five tenths" compared to Mercedes. The prediction proved accurate in qualifying, where Leclerc qualified fifth, 0.532 seconds slower than pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli, while Lewis Hamilton qualified sixth.

Leclerc's Personal Progress

The result followed Leclerc's victory at the British Grand Prix, demonstrating that both the team and driver have made significant strides. Silverstone and Spa were both anticipated to be tracks that wouldn't suit the Ferrari car, yet the Scuderia has proven competitive at both.

"I'm confident in saying that I made a step forward," Leclerc said. "Whether I'm at the level where I want to perform, (the answer is) not yet. There are still things in the car that I need to drive around. I cannot drive completely naturally, and that is slowing me down in some parts of the race."

Cautious Optimism for Hungary

Looking ahead to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Leclerc is maintaining a cautious approach. The technical Hungaroring circuit won't be as energy-starved as Silverstone or Spa, potentially allowing drivers to push more freely, similar to conditions in Monaco.

"It's very difficult to predict the level of performance of every team," Leclerc said. "I recall the overall feeling before Monaco very well. We arrived and were underperforming compared to what everybody thought we would …"

Ferrari's ability to defy expectations at multiple circuits this season suggests the team has found genuine performance improvements, though consistency remains the ultimate test.

Hamilton's Pit Stop Incident

The Belgian Grand Prix weekend wasn't without controversy for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton was involved in a botched pit stop where he accidentally hit a mechanic, resulting in the team receiving a fine from race stewards.
