Chelsea have officially announced the signings of Maxence Lacroix, Danny Welbeck, Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson as new manager Xabi Alonso reshapes his squad for the 2026-27 campaign.

Lacroix completed a £52million move from Crystal Palace, with the central defender signing a six-year deal. Welbeck's move from Brighton for an undisclosed fee was completed in time for the 35-year-old striker to join up with the squad in Hong Kong — the second stop of Chelsea's pre-season tour — with his deal running until 2028. Barco arrived from Strasbourg for an undisclosed fee, while Henderson's free transfer from Brentford was confirmed after the Bees announced an agreement had been reached.

Mudryk Cleared to Resume Career

Mykhailo Mudryk has been given permission to resume his football career at Chelsea after his doping case with the Football Association was resolved. The Ukraine international travelled to Hong Kong to train with Alonso's pre-season tour squad for the first time on Monday evening, but does not yet have a squad number.

After 20 months spent on the sidelines fighting to resume his career, Mudryk's top priority is to play as much football as possible next season. Chelsea have three Asian friendlies against Juventus, AC Milan and Johor Darul Ta'zim in the coming days, but the club and their new manager primarily want to see Mudryk train up close with the first team to get a better sense of where he is after so long out of professional action.

All options remain open. If Chelsea conclude he can play a significant role in helping the team return to the Champions League this season, Mudryk could be reintegrated into the first team. But with no European football in 2026-27, there will be fewer minutes to go around. High-level clubs in England, Italy, Germany and Spain have already signalled interest in the 25-year-old.

Asked whether Mudryk could leave on loan, Alonso said: "No decision made. Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is that he was thinking about the person, to feel back that he was back in the group dynamic, part of a team, and we need to assess. But for sure, he's a special player, it's a special case with him, so we need to be sensitive."

FA Sanctions for Abramovich-Era Breaches

The Football Association has fined Chelsea £10million and given them a suspended two-window transfer ban for rules breaches connected to agents and third parties during the Roman Abramovich ownership era. The wrongdoing took place between 2011 and 2018.

The Exodus Begins

Alonso has confirmed he wants a maximum of four or five centre-halves to work with — and Chelsea currently have 10 senior professionals who play in that position. At least five must go.

Como have agreed a deal to buy Trevoh Chalobah for €36million. Benoit Badiashile is up for sale at £30million, with clubs in England and Europe keen. Axel Disasi can go for £25m. The plan is to loan Mamadou Sarr to an English club, while Aaron Anselmino is another contender for a loan away.

With six strikers now in the senior squad following Welbeck's arrival, Chelsea intend to have only three going into the season. Joao Pedro is going nowhere and is being given a new deal. Liam Delap, who joined from Ipswich Town for £30million last summer, is one of the most likely to depart, with the club seeking a fee in excess of what they paid. Nicolas Jackson is valued at £65m and is liked by Aston Villa, while the asking price for Marc Guiu is £25m. Emmanuel Emegha is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen left the pre-season tour early to formalise a move away, with a loan to Strasbourg being considered. Pedro Neto, Malo Gusto (priced at £75m) and Enzo Fernandez (£120m) are all appreciated by the club but have been left off the 'not for sale' list. Deivid Washington and David Datro Fofana will also be leaving.

Further Incomings?

Chelsea remain in talks with Rayo Vallecano over left-back Pep Chavarria. The 28-year-old full-back has been their main target for several weeks, but the two clubs are still to agree a fee. An enquiry was made for Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic, but the 18-year-old has opted to join Juventus instead. Reports of interest in Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa have been downplayed.

Chelsea are confident they will make over £300million in outgoings come the deadline next month, which is crucial given their £217million net spend so far — a remarkable figure given they are up against a UEFA settlement agreement and have no Champions League football to bolster revenues.
