Powell, Rutherford hit with ICC reprimands and demerit points for Ranchi T20I breaches
West Indies duo sanctioned after second T20I in Ranchi
West Indies' Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford have both been handed official reprimands and a demerit point each after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against India in Ranchi.
Powell was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
Rutherford, meanwhile, was found to have breached Article 2.8, which covers “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”
What happened on the field
Powell's offence came in the sixth over of the West Indies innings, when he hit the ball away with his bat after being dismissed by Mayank Yadav. Rutherford's transgression followed in the 13th over, when he yelled aggressively at the umpire for not giving a wide.

The charges against the pair were levelled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Virender Sharma.
Players accept sanctions
Both Powell and Rutherford admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing. The demerit points will remain on their disciplinary records as part of the ICC's code of conduct framework.
