Singapore Sprint format 'one of the toughest tests of the season', drivers warn
Drivers warn of day-night grip gamble at Singapore Sprint
The Sprint format at Singapore's Marina Bay Street Circuit is being flagged as one of the toughest challenges of the 2026 season by several leading drivers, who point to a unique day-night grip gamble created by the schedule.

With a single daytime practice session before night Qualifying and a sunny Sprint, the compressed programme leaves little room for teams to dial in the car across changing conditions. Drivers including Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon and rookie Arvid Lindblad have warned that the format will be one of the hardest tests of the year at a venue already renowned for its physical demands.
Like any street circuit, Marina Bay requires drivers to build speed and confidence gradually across the weekend ahead of Qualifying. As a night race, the additional challenge is not merely the usual ramp-up of pace but the swing between daytime and nighttime running that the Sprint weekend introduces.
