Swansea rally past Norwich to strengthen grip on Championship summit

Yeo and Idah turn the game around after Wright opener

Swansea City recovered from a sluggish start to beat Norwich City 2-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium, extending their advantage at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Norwich took the lead in the 28th minute. Andre Brooks and Oscar Schwartau won possession from Stephen Welsh, and Schwartau’s pass across the box gave Jacob Wright the chance to finish.

Adam Idah had opportunities to level before half-time, but Norwich goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic kept him out. The Swansea striker finally helped spark the comeback four minutes after the restart: Josh Tymon crossed from the left, Idah missed the ball at the near post and Moussa Kounfolo Yeo finished at the far post. It was Yeo’s third goal in as many games.

Swansea seized control after the equaliser. Goncalo Franco set up Idah for a shot saved by Kovacevic, and Joseph Opoku’s follow-up was cleared off the line by Ruairi McConville. In the 59th minute, Melker Widell delivered an inch-perfect cross and Idah glanced a header into the net to complete the turnaround.

Idah, who had missed several earlier chances, was substituted shortly after the goal after appearing to pick up an injury. Norwich pressed for a late equaliser, but Lawrence Vigouroux stopped Sam Field’s effort and Jovon Makama headed over from close range.

Norwich strike first, but Swansea finish stronger

The visitors began with an aggressive press and unsettled the league leaders, who were looking to extend their unbeaten home run in the Championship to five matches. Swansea’s first effort came after 15 minutes, when Yeo tested Kovacevic from outside the box.

Norwich also threatened on the counter, with Stephen Welsh heading over after a cross from the left. But Swansea improved markedly after the break and made their second-half pressure count. They entered the match after the international break without the injured Stephen Eustaquio, while Norwich were missing top scorer Mohamed Toure.
