Ayesha Zafar's Historic Century Leads Pakistan Women to Record Victory over Zimbabwe
In a record-breaking performance in Karachi, Ayesha Zafar delivered one of the most dominant batting displays in the history of Pakistan Women's cricket. Zafar smashed an unbeaten 102 off just 47 balls, helping Pakistan reach a staggering 237/5—marking the first time the team has ever crossed the 200-run mark in the T20I format.
A Transformation in Power-Hitting
Before this encounter, Ayesha Zafar's T20I record was characterized by caution; she had hit only one six in 28 innings, with a career strike rate in the early 80s. However, on Tuesday, the 31-year-old completely transformed her approach. Her innings included 15 fours and two sixes, propelling her career strike rate to 97 and making her only the second Pakistani woman to score a T20I century, joining Muneeba Ali.
Zafar, who returned to the squad in March after a nearly two-year absence, dominated the spinners by shuffling to the backfoot and targeting the leg-side. After reaching her first T20 fifty in 29 balls, she accelerated further in the final overs, utilizing the crease to power the ball through the V and towards midwicket.
Crucial Partnerships and Bowling Dominance
While Zafar anchored the innings, she received vital support from her teammates. She shared a 67-run stand with Aliya Riaz (48) and a blistering 70-run partnership off just 27 balls with Fatima Sana. Gull Feroza also contributed an early spark with 37 runs off 19 balls.
Zimbabwe Women were unable to keep pace with the massive target and were dismantled by Pakistan's bowling attack. Fatima Sana was particularly lethal, claiming two wickets in consecutive balls in the third over to leave Zimbabwe reeling at 14/3. Sana finished with impressive figures of 3-7, cementing her position as the highest wicket-taking quick in Pakistan Women's T20I history with 46 wickets.
Zimbabwe was eventually bowled out for 84 in 18.2 overs, with Natasha Mtomba top-scoring with 24. The resulting 153-run margin stands as Pakistan's biggest-ever victory by runs in T20Is.
