Max Verstappen commits to Red Bull with contract extension until 2030

Max Verstappen has put an end to relentless speculation surrounding his Formula 1 future by signing a new four-year contract extension with Red Bull Racing, committing his services to the Milton Keynes team through to the end of the 2030 season.

The announcement arrived ahead of Verstappen's home race at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The 28-year-old four-time world champion's previous contract ran until the end of 2028, but included performance-related exit clauses that fueled paddock rumors about a potential switch as early as 2027.

Verstappen's management had explored options across the grid, including talks with McLaren. However, with McLaren's long-term lineup secured in Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, Ferrari committed to Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, and Mercedes retaining George Russell alongside championship leader Kimi Antonelli, Verstappen opted to solidify his long-term partnership with Red Bull.

Verstappen: 'The Team Is Like a Second Family'

Verstappen expressed his delight at securing his future with the team he joined as a teenager in 2016, where he has since amassed four world drivers' championships (2021–2024).

"I am really pleased with the contract extension. We have the best people and I'm excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again," Verstappen said. "This remains the ultimate goal that all of us have been working towards and will continue to pursue."

"I have always said it: The team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home. To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special and something I have always wanted to do."

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised the Dutchman's loyalty and historical impact on the team, emphasizing that their collective ambitions remain as high as ever.

"Having Max continue with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull," Mekies stated. "Since the very beginning, Max has embodied everything that makes Oracle Red Bull Racing special: uncompromising competitiveness, relentless determination and the courage to challenge convention. We are not done yet."

Locking Down the 2027 Grid

The new agreement secures Verstappen until he is 33 years old and provides crucial stability for Red Bull under the leadership of Mekies and Red Bull GmbH managing director Oliver Mintzlaff. Despite early-season difficulties adapting to new technical regulations, recent back-to-back podium finishes and ongoing car development convinced the Dutchman to commit.

With Williams also locking down Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon on contract extensions, Verstappen's extension effectively closes off the frontline driver market for 2027, leaving all top four teams—Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull—with settled driver lineups.
