Otis Lawrence Makes History as Youngest F1 Sim Racing World Champion
In a season defined by late-race drama and tactical masterclasses, 18-year-old Welshman Otis Lawrence has etched his name into the record books, becoming the youngest driver ever to win the F1 Sim Racing World Championship. The title was sealed during a high-tension season finale held at the F1 Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill, covering the final two rounds of the 2026 season.
Round 11: Ferrari Dominance in Brazil
The penultimate round at Interlagos saw a fierce battle for pole position, which Lawrence ultimately secured by a narrow margin over Mercedes' Thomas Ronhaar. However, the race itself became a showcase of Ferrari's teamwork. While Lawrence led early on, a strategic pit stop sequence allowed Ismael Fahssi and Thomas Ronhaar to gain ground.
Ferrari's Bari Broumand played a pivotal role, executing a "defensive masterclass" to hold up the chasing pack and allow his teammate, Fahssi, to escape. This choreographed effort resulted in a stunning Scuderia one-two finish, with Fahssi taking the win and Lawrence finishing P3, leaving him with a slim 17-point lead heading into the final race.
Round 12: A Nail-Biting Finale in Abu Dhabi
The season concluded at the Yas Marina Circuit, where Red Bull's Fredrick Rasmussen took pole position. The race was a chaotic affair, with title contenders Fahssi and Lawrence battling side-by-side from the opening lap. Fahssi, showing incredible form, carved through the field to claim his third consecutive victory.
The championship fight reached a fever pitch in the closing five laps. Lawrence found himself in a frantic struggle for position, at one point falling back and receiving a one-second penalty for denying racing room. Despite the turmoil, Lawrence managed to cross the line in P5.
The Final Verdict
The atmosphere in the room remained electric as drivers and teams waited for the stewards' final classifications. Once confirmed, the celebration erupted: Lawrence had secured the title by a mere two points, finishing the season with 156 points to Fahssi's 154.
While Lawrence took individual glory, Red Bull secured their third consecutive Constructors' title with 227 points, narrowly beating Alpine (224 points) and Ferrari (212 points).
The 18-year-old was visibly overwhelmed by the achievement, marking the start of a promising era for the youngster in the world of elite Sim Racing.
