Gucci Set to Become First Fashion Title Sponsor for Alpine F1 Team in 2027
A New Era of Luxury in Motorsport
In a move that signals a shifting tide in Formula 1 sponsorship, the Italian luxury fashion giant Gucci has announced it will become the title partner of the Alpine Formula One Team starting from the 2027 season. The partnership will see the team rebranded as the Gucci Racing Alpine Formula One Team, marking the first time a fashion company has held the title sponsorship of an F1 team.
Gucci will replace the Austrian water treatment company BWT, which has served as the title sponsor since 2022. With this change, Alpine is expected to undergo a dramatic visual transformation. The team will move away from BWT's signature blue and pink livery to incorporate Gucci's iconic color palette of black, gold, red, and green.
Strategic Vision and "Gucci Racing"
The collaboration extends beyond mere branding. The deal introduces "Gucci Racing," described as a new business and experiential platform designed to merge the worlds of luxury and sport, focusing on performance, precision, discipline, and excellence.
Flavio Briatore, Alpine executive advisor, expressed significant pride in the deal, stating: "Partnering with a prestigious brand of Gucci’s calibre in Formula One as title partner of Alpine Formula One Team is something I am incredibly proud of. Not only that, but I am also excited about the possibilities the partnership with Gucci brings and the great things we can achieve together at a global level."
Analysis: The "Fashionization" of the Paddock
Industry analysts suggest this move is no coincidence. The connection between Luca de Meo—who previously led Renault and pushed Alpine into F1 as a brand-building exercise before moving to Kering (Gucci's parent company) last year—likely played a pivotal role in bridging the two entities.
For Alpine, the partnership provides increased financial firepower to challenge the front of the grid. This comes at a time of resurgence for the Enstone-based team; after a grueling 2025, the team currently sits fifth in the constructors' standings, with drivers Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto showing strong early-season form in 2026.
This trend follows a broader pattern of luxury brands infiltrating the F1 space. With LVMH becoming a global partner in 2025, Tommy Hilfiger's ties to Cadillac, and Hugo Boss's partnership with Aston Martin, the grid is evolving from its traditional roots of energy drinks and financial services toward high-fashion prestige, particularly as the sport expands its reach in the United States.
