BCCI invites all IPL stakeholders for October 15 review meet ahead of 2027 landmark season
BCCI summons franchises, broadcaster and host states for October 15 planning meet
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a meeting of all Indian Premier League stakeholders on October 15, a follow-up to its Annual General Meeting decision to stage the next edition of the tournament on a grand scale.
"We have invited all the stakeholders of the IPL, including franchise owners, broadcasters and hosting state associations," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz on Friday, confirming the meeting. "It is a follow-up to our earlier decision to conduct the next season of the IPL, which will be the 20th edition, on a grand scale."
It is expected that the 13 state associations that normally host IPL games have been invited to the meeting, alongside representatives of the broadcaster, in this case JioStar.
The venue has not yet been finalised, but given the expected turnout the meeting will likely be held outside the BCCI headquarters. "We have not yet finalised the venue. We have just shortlisted a few options. We will take a final call soon," the BCCI secretary added. It is understood that the meeting will be held at Taj Santacruz at 6 pm on October 15.
What the BCCI wants on the table
In his letter to the state associations — a copy of which is with Cricbuzz — Saikia laid out the scope of the gathering:
"As the league approaches its landmark 20th season in 2027, the BCCI proposes to convene a joint meeting of all key stakeholders, namely the State associations that hosted IPL matches, the Franchise owners and their Chief Executive Officers and the Broadcasters. The meeting is intended to review the issues and learnings from the past seasons, address any concerns and deliberate on the planning and coordination for the 2027 season."
He underlined the central role of host associations in the league's operations:
"The State Associations play a central role in the successful staging of the League and your perspective on matters of hosting, venue operations, and match-day coordination will be of great value to these deliberations," Saikia wrote, adding, "We look forward to your presence and valuable inputs and to working together toward making the 20th season of the IPL a truly memorable one."
Context: a crowded 2027 calendar
The push to plan the 2027 season comes against a backdrop of scheduling pressures. As reported on October 9, the Pakistan Cricket Board locked the PSL 2027 window for March 18–May 2, setting up a second straight clash between the two major T20 leagues competing for players, viewers and global attention. On that date, Saikia told PTI that the BCCI's governing council was discussing moving the IPL forward from its traditional late-March window, citing both rain and heat concerns late in the season. "This year, IPL started around March 29 and it was over by May 31," he said, noting deliberations over rainfall and pre-monsoon conditions after May 15 and the hot weather that follows.
