The selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, announced the squad on Saturday, featuring a blend of experienced domestic performers and exciting new talent.

Auqib Nabi Earns Maiden India A Call-Up

One of the major talking points of the squad announcement is the maiden India A call-up for Jammu & Kashmir fast-bowling all-rounder Auqib Nabi. The 24-year-old has been rewarded after a breakthrough Ranji Trophy season where he picked up 60 wickets and played a pivotal role in Jammu and Kashmir's historic title win.

"Nabi's selection comes after a standout Ranji Trophy season where he picked up 60 wickets and played a key role in Jammu and Kashmir's historic title win," the report stated.

Nabi has also been involved as a net bowler with the senior India side recently, as part of preparations for the ongoing red-ball assignments, further highlighting his potential.

Squad Composition and Leadership

Devdutt Padikkal has been named vice-captain for the red-ball tour. The squad includes several promising players:

  • Batters: Sai Sudharsan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, N Jagadeesan
  • All-rounders: Ayush Badoni
  • Wicketkeeper-batter: Dhruv Jurel (Captain)
  • Pace attack: Auqib Nabi, Yash Thakur, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar
  • Spin duties: Zeeshan Ansari, Saransh Jain

Aman Mokhade and Shaik Rasheed also received their first India A selections, while Gurnoor Brar has recently been in and around senior national setups.

Notably, Zeeshan Ansari and Nabi have also been involved as net bowlers with the senior India side recently, as part of preparations for the ongoing red-ball assignments.

Continuity from Limited-Overs Series

Several players, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ayush Badoni, Yash Thakur, and Anshul Kamboj, are already in Sri Lanka as part of India A's ongoing limited-overs tri-series. The red-ball fixtures will now follow, providing these players with an opportunity to showcase their skills across formats.

The tour is seen as a key step for India's emerging red-ball talent, especially with challenging spin-friendly conditions expected in Galle. This tour will provide valuable experience to the next generation of Indian cricketers as they aim to break into the senior national team.
