BCCI AGM set for September 18 in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene its Annual General Meeting at its headquarters in Mumbai on September 18, according to a notification circulated by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to member associations. Chief among the items on the agenda is the nomination of India's representative to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

One of the more notable proposals set to come before the house is the “grant of associate membership to Cricket Association of Andaman & Nicobar Island of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.” The proposal had previously surfaced for discussion at an Apex Council meeting of the BCCI and will now be placed before the AGM for formal consideration.

A pathway into domestic cricket

If approved, the move would bring the Union Territory into the BCCI fold. Associate membership, however, does not carry voting rights. It will, though, provide a pathway for Andaman & Nicobar to feature in India's domestic cricket calendar, a meaningful breakthrough given that 38 teams currently feature in the Board-approved domestic tournaments.

IPL Governing Council and selection panel on the docket

The meeting will also see the election of two General Body representatives to the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In addition, the BCCI will induct one representative of the Indian Cricketers' Association into the IPL Governing Council.

The AGM is also expected to ratify the appointment of the new five-member junior selection committee, for which the BCCI had recently put out an advertisement.
