Tresoldi hat-trick powers Club Brugge to 4-3 shock at Inter

Brugge stun Inter in seven-goal San Siro thriller

Club Brugge claimed a landmark 4-3 Champions League victory over Inter at San Siro, with Nicolò Tresoldi scoring a hat-trick to lead the Belgian side to their first win of the campaign.

Tresoldi opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Hakan Calhanoglu fouled Carlos Forbs. Lautaro Martínez equalised shortly before half-time, but Brugge retook control after the break when Forbs pounced on a hesitant clearance from Josep Martínez and squared for Tresoldi to score.

The 22-year-old completed his treble in the 74th minute, finishing a rebound after Josep Martínez had saved Forbs’s attempt. Lautaro Martínez pulled Inter back within one, but Romeo Vermant restored Brugge’s two-goal cushion with a deft finish in the 87th minute. Ange-Yoan Bonny scored in stoppage time, too late to prevent Inter’s defeat.

The result leaves Inter on zero points after two matches, having also lost their opener to Real Madrid. They face Shakhtar Donetsk next week, while Club Brugge will host Lens. Tresoldi’s treble was reported as the first by a Club Brugge player in the Champions League; at 22 years and 54 days, he also became the youngest German player to score a hat-trick in the competition, according to FotMob.

Inter created chances but could not recover from Brugge’s decisive spells. FotMob recorded 30 shots and an expected-goals figure of 3.93 for Inter, compared with 18 attempts and 4.26 expected goals for the visitors.
