Manchester United selling Old Trafford pitch in £125 glass cubes — and the first batch has already sold out

Manchester United have begun selling pieces of the Old Trafford pitch for £125 each — and demand from supporters has been such that the first batch put on sale has already sold out.

Old Trafford, Manchester United's stadium since 1910

The mementoes come from turf preserved when the famous pitch was dug up this summer. For the first time in 14 years, the Old Trafford playing surface was stripped back to its foundation, with sections of the grass saved before redevelopment work.

A "priceless memento" in a glass cube

The preserved turf has been cut into pieces measuring 7x7cm, then placed inside glass cubes presented in a black case. According to the club website, the cubes make a "priceless memento of iconic games played at home and keeps the memories of matchdays alive".

United have played at Old Trafford since 1910, and the pitch has hosted some of the most famous moments in English football history — history that supporters are now able to own a small piece of, at a price.

Launched as debt tops £1bn

The timing of the initiative raised eyebrows, as it was announced on the same day the club reported that overall debt remains above £1bn.

The accounts also revealed a mixed financial picture for 2025-26. United recorded record revenue of £677.6m and an operating profit of £22.6m, but still posted a pre-tax loss of £43m.

Money flowing into new stadium plans

The 13-time Premier League champions also confirmed that £63.5m has been spent on buying land for the club's planned new stadium — a project expected to cost more than £2bn overall.

While the sale of pitch cubes is unlikely to make a dent in the club's balance sheet, the sold-out first batch suggests there remains a strong market among supporters for a tangible connection to the ground the club has called home for more than a century.
